Melissa P Ford
![]() |
Since spring of 2001, Melissa has been a frequent correspondent on the insulin-pumpers.org.uk e-mail discussion list. Having been born and raised in the US, she moved to Oxford for graduate study in autumn of 2001. There, she founded the Oxford University Student Union Diabetes Network and, with the help of John Davis at INPUT, brought the Oxford City Primary Care Trust into compliance with the NICE guidance on insulin pump therapy (no. 57). She now lives somewhere between the US and the UK. An insulin pumper since 1996, her recent activities in consulting for the diabetes care industry, public speaking, outreach and medical writing have prompted friends to describe her as a 'professional diabetic'. Her hobbies include wine tasting, running, reading fashion magazines and The Economist weekly, and staying up until all hours at the Oxford Union.
